University of Reading, School of Agriculture, Policy & Development

Addressing the most important challenges of the modern world.

University of Reading, School of Agriculture, Policy & Development

The School of Agriculture, Policy and Development encompasses agricultural production and the environmental goods and services that the rural sector provides. We have an enthusiasm to enable 21st Century agriculture to feed, fuel and clothe the world’s burgeoning population using agricultural systems that are sustainable, humane, and beneficial to rural environments and those who work and dwell there worldwide.

The Department is the focus of teaching, learning and research in animal science, crop science, international development and the environment, and contributes to the University’s research theme of Food Chains and Health; the Walker Institute for Climate Systems Research; and the Centre for Food Security. We offer undergraduate degrees in Agriculture, Agricultural Business Management, Environmental and Countryside Management, and Animal Science and taught Masters degrees in Environmental Management and in Agriculture and Development. The modular structure of our courses allows students to select from many subjects taught across the School and the University by experts in their field, thus providing for the individual student’s specialist needs as well as developing a core understanding of their subject.

We have a wide range of facilities for research on campus and on our farms nearby. In addition, our links with other institutions, many of them overseas, allow research to be conducted in temperate, Mediterranean, and tropical climates in more than 50 countries by research students, university staff and their cooperating and collaborating counterparts.
