Central to the Society’s remit is the provision of educational events, grants, awards, bursaries and scholarships for people with an interest or involvement in farming, agriculture and other related land based industries. All Society activities aim to celebrate, build awareness and develop understanding of the products that come from land based and allied industries, as well as the use and support of local suppliers.
International Farmlink: Funding travel bursaries for individuals and groups. We award two bursaries each year worth up to £2,000 each to help individuals or groups fund international travel to study and learn about farming and agriculture around the world. Reciprocal exchanges are encouraged but trips can also be one-off study tours.
Bursaries are available to individuals or groups. Applications are welcome from people of all ages.
Nuffield Scholars: The South of England Agricultural Society has sponsored Nuffield Scholarships since 1979. Scholars are chosen because of their potential to provide leadership within the farming industry and rural community and to raise standards as a result of their work.
The Student Assignment Competition: This is open to all students studying at land-based colleges in the region and is designed to encourage individual research, to improve knowledge and develop study skills. Split into academic levels 1-4 depending on the educational course they are studying (1= Entry Level, 4= Degree or Similar). Participants must submit a written research presentation to the judges on a subject of their choice.
Young Artisan of the Year: A highly prestigious competition, open to anyone aged 14-23 years, with entries in Woodwork, Metalwork, Textiles, Ceramics and Design and Technology.
The competition is open to anyone living or studying in Berkshire, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex’. This event embraces two of the Society’s Objectives, namely to promote crafts and skills, and to encourage young people to extend themselves and to produce work of the highest standard. It is hoped that the Awards will provide financial assistance and publicity to encourage the successful candidates to pursue and broaden their skills.
