Niab’s East Malling site, in Kent, is a world-class centre of excellence for applied research and innovation in commerical horticulture. As the UK’s largest horticultural research and development organisation, Niab at East Malling undertakes work primarily in perennial and clonally propagated crops. We provide scientific research, technical services and practical advice to improve the yield, efficiency and resilience of crop production across the sector.
The team of scientists integrate their knowledge of breeding and molecular genetics, genomics, pest and disease biology and management, crop and post-harvest physiology, agronomy and environmental science to address current industry issues and deliver innovative solutions particularly applied to: fresh produce; environment; and non food crops and products.
East Malling began with the East Malling and Wye Fruit Experimental Station. During it’s development it has also been known as East Malling Research (EMR).
